Marissa Honjiyo, LMFT (she/her)
BIO:
I'm Marissa, she/her, a licensed marriage and family therapist (CA#152112).
I take a relationally psychodynamic and attachment-based approach, which means I believe our past relationships shape how we navigate our current ones. This involves exploring patterns in thoughts, emotions, and beliefs, as well as using the therapeutic relationship itself as a tool for insight and healing.
Guiding Principles:
I believe that healing in relationships happens within relationships. When we are truly seen and accepted, it opens the door for deep healing—both within ourselves and in our connections with others. This belief is at the heart of my work. I strive to show up as authentically as possible in hopes that my clients feel invited to do the same. This authenticity creates real moments of connection and trust and allows us to use the therapeutic relationship as a model for cultivating a healthy relationship within yourself, in your emotions, and your experience of others.
I also value collaboration in my sessions. We need each other to do the work. I see us as a team, and I rely on open communication, regular feedback, and client input to help my clients accomplish their goals.
My Style of Therapy:
Insightful
I try to work with clients to generate new perspectives and deeper understanding of themselves. I do this by offering up my observations and creating connections between the past and the present that emotionally resonate, and lending a sense of clarity to an experience or feeling that seems complex.
Directive
I really value interactiveness in my session. I believe that a therapist's role isn’t just to attune and listen, but to offer up their expertise, insight, and observations. I want my clients to feel like they have the ability to make changes in their life, and I see my voice and ability to vocalize my thoughts and opinions as part of that.
Approachable
I try to make therapy as easy to enter into as possible. I do my best to make my clients feel like therapy is something they can easily engage with, especially if it is their first experience.
Our sessions include my colleague: Tater Tot the Therapy Dog.
