History of the Theory, Clinical Application, and Cultural Considerations
Spaces Therapy LA (Provider #1032777) is approved by the California association of marriage and family therapists to sponsor continuing education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs and LEPs. Spaces Therapy LA maintains responsibility for the program and all its content.
Course Description & Educational Goals: This course focuses on the history of Attachment Theory, what the theory entails, ways of assessing for Attachment styles – including how it can be utilized to assist clients in developing practical skills for shifting their responses within their relationships. While most of us have some training on early childhood development, there is an ongoing need for training about the impact of early development on how we interact in the world as adults as well as how to aid our clients in moving past patterns of relational dysfunction and earn a secure attachment style. This presentation aims to utilize core components of Attachment Theory to assist both individuals and couples/families with deepening their understanding of self and tangible ways to adjust responses to work towards secure attachment. It also takes into account some important cultural considerations, in light of early Attachment research coming from white, Euro-centric practitioners and this training being held in the United States which is historically an individualistic, Euro-centric culture, whereas healing Attachment wounds requires coregulation and collaboration with others.
Target Audience: LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCSs, Psychologists, Associates, Students, & Related Professionals
Learning Objectives:
1) Participants will be able to identify the four Attachment Styles.
2) Participants will be able to apply two assessment tools to aid clients in identifying their own Attachment Styles as well as identify alternative responses to move towards Earned Secure attachment.
3) Participants will be able to specify and challenge two individualistic ideals usually present in the field of Attachment Psychology in order to greater integrate the interdependence and coregulation skills required to earn Secure attachment.
